All of us have experienced feelings of anxiety at certain times during our life, often as a response to stressful events like exams. If the anxiety becomes long term, remaining beyond a particular event, then treatment will be necessary to help break the habit that anxiety can become.

The symptoms of anxiety include feelings of uneasiness, apprehension and tension, and sometimes feelings of panic may also develop.

Some of the physical symptoms that may be experienced include: twitching or trembling, muscle tension, headaches, sweating or dry mouth and abdominal pain.

Some of the causes of anxiety may be drugs, either recreational or medicinal i.e. caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, cold and cough remedies, decongestants amphetamines, diet pills and thyroid medications.

A poor diet can also contribute for example lowered levels of vitamin B12.

It is important to try to understand what is causing the anxiety in your life; this will enable you to make positive changes that can help you deal with the feelings of anxiety.

It is also important to find healthy ways to cope with your stress. Ensure that you have a well-balanced diet, where you don't over-eat. Getting enough sleep and regular exercise can help you relax and increase energy. Limit the amount of alcohol and caffeine as these are stimulants and can contribute to apprehensive feelings. Incorporate some relaxation techniques such as yoga and tai-chi into your daily routine.

There are several ways to reduce the effects of anxiety using herbal medicine. The De-Stress Tincture or Tonic are both good choices. They contain a blend of herbs that may assist the body in coping effectively with stress and anxiety while also supporting the nervous system.

Lavender and Chamomile essential oil both have calming and soothing effects on the nervous system. The Peace range of body products may also be beneficial to calm the mind.

Essential fatty acids (“good fats”) have been found to be beneficial in alleviating symptoms of anxiety, they can help to lower elevated cortisol (which is elevated with stress) therefore reducing anxiety and improving sleep and associated symptoms. Essential fatty acids are found in the Health and beauty oil, which contains a blend of Flaxseed oil, evening primrose, Avocado and olive oil that will ensure that you receive the full complement of omega 3, 6 and 9 essential fatty acids.
