Blood pressure - Low
Hypotension is insufficient
pressure to propel contents of the circulatory vessels throughout the body. It
can be caused by reduced blood volume, decreased cardiac output or excessive
vasodilatation. Excessive vasodilatation can be due to
decreased sympathetic nervous system output or increased parasympathetic
activity occurring as a consequence of injury to the brain or spinal cord.
Persistent low blood pressure can be an
indicator of anaemia and obtaining a blood test from your GP may be advisable.
Symptoms of hypotension include;
dizziness, headaches, fatigue, fainting, ringing in the ears, feeling low,
panicky, unable to concentrate and anxiety.
Ginseng and Ginkgo are herbs that
can assist in treating Hypotension. Ginkgo will reduce the number of free
radicals circulating, thus reducing the damage to the blood vessels as well as
influencing blood flow. Liquorice root is also well known for aiding in
increasing blood pressure. It has an aldosterone-like effect, thus increasing
the retention of fluid which in turn raises blood pressure.
