Cold sores

Cold sores are caused by the Herpes simplex virus 1. It is characterised by skin outbreaks in the form of cold sores. These are usually around the lips, mouth or even the genital area. This infection is usually brought about by exposure to intense sunlight or sunburn. They may also appear after an infection, when the body's immunity is low.

The virus can be treated using the anti-viral herb, St. John's Wort. This can be applied topically to the cold sore. Lemon Balm is also another herb that is used topically to reduce the time needed for healing. Echinacea has also been found to be useful to reduce outbreaks due to its anti-viral properties as well as acting as an immune builder.

Another key product is the Rescue lip balm, which contains herbs again to initiate the healing and prevent further outbreaks of this virus.
