Cough / Bronchitis
A cough is a protective reflex for the expulsion of an obstruction or irritant from lower respiratory organs. Often caused by smoking, but may be secondary to an underlying condition which should receive prompt attention (bronchitis).
Usually a cough signifies a viral or bacterial infection. The production of phlegm is necessary to aiding in the removal of the infection. Other causes for a cough are allergies, lung infection, sinusitis, air pollutants and ACE inhibitors.
Acute bronchitis usually follows a viral respiratory infection. The people that are at the most risk for contracting acute bronchitis are: smokers, elderly, infants and children and people with heart or lung disease.
Chronic bronchitis is a long-term condition, where there is a cough with excessive mucous production.
The symptoms for bronchitis are: cough that produces mucous (yellowy-green colour), shortness of breath, wheezing, fatigue and fever.
There is an excellent essential oil blend called Breathe, which can be added to a bath or a base oil and rubbed into the chest area. The oils will start the breakdown of the mucous and reduce congestion, as well as start destroying the infection.
There is also the organic Chest Rub ointment, that is good for infections and improving breathing.
