Cystitis (Urinary Tract Infections)

Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder, usually acute and it causes scalding pain on passage of water. It occurs when bacteria invade the urinary tract and cause irritation and inflammation. A common cause is dietary related: too much spicy food, vinegar, coffee, alcohol, coke and a diet high in meat, concentrates the urine. Other common causes: vaginal deodorants, underwear washed in biological washing powders, tampons and the oral contraceptive pill.

This condition frequently affects sexually active women aged between 20-50, but not necessarily restricted to these women. It is a rare occurrence in males.

Symptoms include: pressure in the lower pelvis, painful urination, frequent or urgent need to urinate, abnormal urine colour (cloudy), blood in urine or strong odour to urine.

Prompt treatment is essential to prevent the infection from spreading to the kidneys.

Plenty of fluid should be drunk as this dilutes the irritating effect of uric acid in the urine.

The combination of Lavender, Eucalyptus and Sage essential oils are excellent for treating this condition. Eucalyptus and Lavender both have anti-bacterial properties. These oils can be used individually or in combination. They are for external use only.

Internally you can use the Waterworks tincture will be good for supporting the renal system and also getting rid of the infection.
