Detox
New Page 1
Every body stores toxins so every body should take measures to eliminate
them. Toxins are substances that can potentially cause harm in the body. We are
exposed to toxins both externally from our environment and internally as a
natural result of normal body processes. Toxins are found in the air we breathe,
the food we eat and the water we drink. They are unavoidable.
Toxins accumulate in the fat cells in our bodies. Build-up of these
substances may contribute to many symptoms including skin eruptions, brittle
nails, lacklustre hair, dark circles under the eyes, bad breath, lack of energy
& libido, insomnia, mood swings, weight problems, headaches, pains in muscles
and joints, digestive complaints and poor memory. It’s highly likely that if you
suffer from any of the above, you need to detox!
Cleansing your body of its accumulated toxins is a great way to boost your
health and feel great. It promotes outer beauty by first creating inner health.
A total body detox will address all the organs of the body where toxins are
eliminated – the skin, bowels, kidneys, liver and lungs. This provides the most
effective way to rid your body of toxins in the most efficient way possible.
It is not necessary to engage in a rigorous fasting program in order to
cleanse your body. A 5-day detox, 4 times per year is a realistic goal that can
help you achieve optimum health and there is no better time to start than at the
beginning of a fresh new year! Ideally during a detox program it is recommended
to stick to healthy foods and avoid foods that may increase your toxic burden.
You can use the following guidelines to help gain maximum benefit for your
program:
- Drink fruit & vegetable juices daily to feed, restore and heal every
cell of the body.
- Have at least one raw salad each day. Aim for a variety of colours in
your fruit and vegetable choices.
- Avoid heavy “stodgy” foods while detoxing like pasta dishes and breads.
Try light salads and soups instead.
- Eat plenty of high fibre foods to pull toxins to the bowel, including
fruit, veg, nuts and seeds.
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol while detoxing. These will slow down the
process.
- Try herbal teas instead. The body is made up of 70% water. Drink 2
litres of it daily… filtered preferably
