Menopause
New Page 1
Menopause is a transition period in a woman’s life, usually occurring at
around the age of 45-50. Ovulation ceases and hormonal activity will slowly
decrease. Intervals between periods become longer and eventually periods may
stop.
Symptoms include; hot flushes, depression, vaginal discomfort, painful breasts,
low libido, irritability and poor sleep.
Fushi has a unique tincture blend that is designed to improve the body's
adaptation to the hormonal changes associated with menopause. It contains phyto-oestrogenic
herbs that may act as a tonic and support the drop in oestrogen levels. It also
contains Chaste Tree, which has a normalising action on the hormonal system,
thus gradually reducing the side-effects felt with the onset of menopause.
The drop in oestrogen levels which occurs during menopause leaves women more at
risk of osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease so as well as treating the
symptoms, vitamins and herbs can also be useful in protecting against these two
conditions. The Total bone complex contains a range of minerals that may
be beneficial to protect against these.
Moderate exercise can help to build bone strength - just 20 minutes of vigorous
walking per day can have a positive effect - and eating foods that are rich in
phytochemicals which help rebalance hormones, including tofu and organic soy,
may also help.
Stress is another trigger for some of the worst symptoms of menopause, including
hot flushes. Eating a diet that is rich in the B vitamins- known as natural
stress-busters – may help to increase your energy and decrease stress, giving
you relief from certain symptoms. Good healthy food sources of these important
nutrients include poultry, salmon, eggs, almonds, cheese, bran, brown rice, and
yoghurt. Or you can try the Total Energy Complex which contains high
levels of all of the B vitamins.
Researchers have found, it is better to eat smaller but more frequent meals
which will help stabilise blood sugar levels and to try to avoid tea, coffee,
refined sugar and alcohol which not only disrupt these levels but which also
deprive the body of vital nutrients.
The nutrients most lacking in the Western diet are the omega 3 fatty acids,
which can be really beneficial for many women during menopause. They help the
body make substances called prostaglandins, which then regulate hormones,
decrease blood pressure, and reduce water retention. These chemicals also reduce
the stickiness of blood platelets - which, in turn, help prevent heart attacks
and strokes. You can find these in the Female health & Beauty oil.
The body cannot make the Omega-3 fatty acids but must get them from the diet.
They enhance the immune system, boost energy and soften the skin. You can
increase your dietary intake by eating more cold water oily fish such as
mackerel, pilchards, herring, and sardines.
