Psoriasis
New Page 1
Psoriasis is a recurrent skin condition. In simple terms, it is only an
acceleration of the usual replacement processes of the skin. Normally a skin
cell matures in 21 to 28 days during its passage to the surface where a constant
invisible shedding of dead cells, as scales, takes place. Psoriatic cells,
however, are believed to turn over in two to three days and in such abundance
that even live cells reach the surface and accumulate with the dead cells in
visible layers, piling on top of each other. Psoriasis affects both sexes
equally. It may appear for the first time at any age, although it is more likely
to appear between the ages of 11 and 45.
It appears as raised red patches of skin covered with silvery scales. It can
occur on any part of the body although elbows, knees and the scalp are usual
sites. There is often accompanying irritation.
Certain genes have been identified as being linked to psoriasis. It appears
that a genetic tendency needs to be triggered off by such things as injury,
throat infection, certain drugs and physical and emotional stress.
Scalp psoriasis - There is thick scale and redness that is evident around the
scalp margins. Many patients experience severe itching and a feeling of
tightness and some report soreness.
Recommended
The Scalp Soother oil is designed to help relieve the itch, reduce inflammation
and nourish the area to alleviate discomfort.
If stress appears to be a trigger the Total Energy Complex may be helpful.
The complex contains a range of B vitamins known to reduce stress and increase
energy as well as enhancing immune function.
Alterative and blood-cleansing herbs are essential in purifying the
circulatory and lymphatic system. This can be achieved by taking Burdock,
Dandelion and Milk Thistle tinctures. You can also use a blended formula
containing several of these herbs already and this is the Skin, Hair and Nails
Tincture. Calendula has healing and anti-inflammatory properties that can
relieve symptoms.
