Varicose veins

New Page 1

Varicose veins are abnormally enlarged, bulging, bluish and lumpy looking veins that are often accompanied by dull, nagging aches and pains.

All leg veins contain one-way valves that help blood travel upwards on its return to the heart. When one or more of these valves ‘leaks’, some blood is able to flow back down in the wrong direction. This blood overfills and dilates branches of veins underlying the skin, and causes varicose veins.

Poor circulation contributes to the formation of varicose veins, this is why they are more common in people who sit or stand in one position for prolonged periods of time, or those who habitually sit with their legs crossed and those who lack regular exercise.

The Cardio+ Tincture may be beneficial as it contains Horsechestnut, which is excellent for strengthening and toning the blood vessels. Hawthorn berries are also good for increasing the circulation.

Bilberry is great for improving the tone of the blood vessels and increasing the anti-oxidant status within the body. The anti-oxidants will reduce the damage caused by free radicals to the blood vessels.

A deficiency of Vitamin C and bioflavonoids can weaken the collagen structure in the vein walls, which can lead to varicose veins.

Essential fatty acids may also be beneficial to help reduce pain and inflammation and to keep the blood vessels soft and pliable.
