Hair - Oily
Hair - Oily
This condition occurs when the sebaceous (oil) glands over-secret. This can
be due to hormonal changes or other health conditions. The amount of oil in a
person's hair and skin can vary, depending on:
Hormones
Time of year
Sun and wind
Temperature and humidity - Skin looks the oiliest in hot, humid weather.
Greasy hair is often accompanied by spots on the forehead and nose. When
sebaceous glands are overactive hair becomes lank a day after washing. The
cause, as said, is often glandular. The hair itself does not produce oil; the
oil is being produced by the scalp and travels down the shaft of the hair.
People with straight hair tend to have more oil in their hair than people with
curly hair.
The condition is often made worse by too frequent washing as this will affect
the acid/alkaline balance of the scalp and more oil can be produced. Leave at
least 2 days between washes, or alternatively use fushi’s balancing herbal
powder to absorb excessive grease. Wash gently, with mild foaming shampoos and
the use of astringent herbs will help to tighten and tone the scalp, this
approach is dealt with in our balancing herbal shampoo.
Fatty foods, spicy dishes and hot, strong tea and coffee, which are
stimulants, all increase the activity of the sebaceous glands. Drink lots of
water and get enough exercise to improve circulation, which in turn will improve
the condition of hair.
Avoid over brushing as this can move oil along the hair.
