Ethical Company Organisation

Ethical Company Organisation

The Ethical Company Organisation run the UK’s only cross-spectrum (people, animals and environment) ethical accreditation, which exists to reward ethical companies’ behaviour. Companies with excellent scores according to their Ethical Company Index analysis will display their accreditation standard marks and ethical ranking tables which provide up-to-date positive comparison with less ethical competition. Only the highest ethically ranked 33% of any particular product sector are eligible for ethical accreditation. The Ethical Award and Ethical Company logos are a guarantee of a company’s good ethical standards. A company displaying either of these logos has been through an in-depth research audit in order to attain Ethical Accreditation, which enables them to use the logos as independent verification of their good ethical standing. As part of the research audit, companies are thoroughly screened by The Ethical Company Organisation’s dedicated team of researchers across a wide range of ethical criteria, which fall into the main categories of The Environment; Animal Welfare and Human Rights. A full list of criteria (tailored to specific product categories) can be found below.

How they work

  • Working with their vast research database on 30,000 plus companies, court reports and all the criticisms laid down by the major NGOs and measuring 15 different ethical criteria (from human rights records to animal welfare and environmental records),
  • The Ethical Company Index is designed to cut through companies’ greenwash and results in an independent score for each company and brand.
  • This, as well as the detailed company comparison tables found in The Good Shopping Guide is used by people, NGOs, and ethical companies to assess ethical performances and therefore purchase choices.

The Good Shopping Guide‍‍‍‍‍‍

‍‍‍‍‍‍The Good Shopping Guide aims to help people make informed decisions about which brands are best for the planet, best for animals and best for people world-wide.
