The health and beauty benefits of virgin organic coconut oil are world renowned. While it’s easily found everywhere, sourcing a high-quality coconut oil requires research and being thorough with the growing and production process.

We have found the perfect coconut grove and source this directly from our growers in Sri Lanka. Evidently the red yellow pod zolic Sri Lankan soil is one of the most fertile soils naturally and abundant in minerals, and naturally free from fertilisers and weedicides. Sri Lanka is the perfect location, being an island buffered by the sea, makes the agroclimatic conditions ideal for the coconut tree to thrive and deliver a unique flavour. Our growers only grow the natural tall natives and do not cross pollinate to create hybrid trees for better yields, so the coconuts are as nature would have intended leaving their nutritional qualities as close to nature and 100% pure. The grove is sustainably cultivated, and the soil is fertilised using natural animal and food compost.

Many oils even though labelled virgin is often very low in healthy nutrients, usually as the result of being made from coconuts that aren’t fresh. Low quality coconut oil may also contain heavy metals such as arsenic, copper, iron and lead. The great thing about our Sri Lankan coconut oil is made from very freshly harvested coconuts, cultivated in organic soil naturally. And, most importantly no children or monkeys are used for coconut picking which does happen to lower the cost of production in some parts of the world.

For beauty and skin uses, it is a natural anti-aging moisturiser, excellent hair conditioner and an effective anti-dandruff remedy. Used as hair oil it also encourages healthy hair growth, regenerates thinning hair and promotes a healthy scalp. It has also been known to be helpful for skin conditions such as eczema and is a wonderful natural emollient for dry skin. It deeply nourishes the skin, is easily absorbed and can also be used as massage oil for the body. Used internally organic virgin coconut oil is considered by nutritionists to be among the healthiest of all dietary oils.

Coconut Oil Pressed from Fresh

Our oils are pressed from this season’s fresh harvest of seeds, nuts and kernels, to retain quality potency and efficacy. Fushi's Organic Coconut Oil is also one of the most potent and pure types of coconut oil, using approx. 2.5 coconuts to make your 230g jar of oil.

This is a non-standardised, unrefined and natural oil. Each batch varies and displays a set of unique characteristics. Sediment or natural particles of the ingredients may be visible in the oil. This is simply down to our oils never being refined, deodorized or filtered, and does not imply the oil is faulty.

What is the shelf life of Fushi’s coconut oil and the recommended storage requirements?

Fushi’s coconut oil should not be refrigerated. It should be kept at room temperature. Coconut oil has a very long shelf life of up to 18 months.

Why is coconut oil so beneficial for cooking?

Coconut oil has a high smoking point of 350° F. The smoking point of an oil is how high a temperature it can reach before the natural impurities in the oil begin to burn. The lower the smoking point, the lower the temperature the oil can be heated to before it starts smoking as a result of burning impurities. Higher smoke-point oils are better for high-temperature cooking, including deep frying.

Does coconut oil raise cholesterol?

Yes, but only the good cholesterol that you want to raise. The body needs good cholesterol, or HDL, to function at its best, and coconut oil raises those levels. At the same time, it is said to either lower or leave alone the levels of LDL cholesterol, or the bad kind. So while your cholesterol levels might see a net increase, the effect is a positive one.

Where is does Fushi’s Coconut oil originate from and how many coconuts are one jar?

Fushi’s coconut oil is from Sri Lanka. Coconut oil tastes different depending on the origin. Sri Lankan coconut oil is a much lighter aroma and flavour. This oil is fresh pressed to retain quality potency and efficacy. Fushi's Organic Coconut Oil is also one of the most potent and pure types of coconut oil, using approximately 3.5 coconuts to make a 250g jar of oil.

Is coconut oil high in saturated fat?

Coconut oil happens to be abundant in Lauric acid, a type of saturated fatty acid that - although it does raise cholesterol levels, mainly increases HDL, the healthy type of cholesterol that you want to be high. The chain length of saturated fats is another indicator of healthfulness. Coconut oil contains medium-chain triglycerides, which are used directly for energy by your body. These fatty acids are mostly lost during the refining process, but they are present in unrefined coconut oil. This means that the fat content of unrefined coconut oil may prove beneficial.

Directly from our growers

Having close relationships our growers is hugely important to us, and getting the opportunity to travel to the lush tropical island of Sri Lanka to see our coconut growers was just wonderful. And we got to learn so much about what makes a good quality coconut oil.

Why Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is the perfect location, being an island buffered by the sea, makes the agro-climatic conditions ideal for the coconut tree to thrive and deliver a very unique flavour. Our growers only grow the natural tall natives and do not cross pollinate to create hybrid trees for better yields.

Fresh coconuts

The great thing about our Sri Lankan coconut oil is made from very freshly harvested coconuts. This makes them as high in healthy nutrients as possible.

No monkeys used

No monkeys or children are used for the havesting of the coconuts. Our Sri Lankan grower strictly harvests by either manual climbing or using a bamboo pole. Our growers are accredited by SEC Sri Lanka, code of conduct and ethics within all business practice.
