Varganza variety - extra rich in antioxidants

120100 ORAC value (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity)

Sourced from Fairtrade farmers

Dried using a gentle, eco-friendly solar method

Product Description

Details

Our Varganza pomegranate fruits are a deep purple colour, which signifies the abundance of antioxidants present. The Varganza seeds are the only ones with such a high antioxidant capacity - up to 120100 ORAC value per 100g (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity).

Antioxidants strengthen the body’s defence mechanisms and help to neutralise excessive production of free radicals. The suggested ORAC daily intake is between 5000 and 7000.

The pomegranate is also rich in vitamin C, beta-carotene, potassium and polyphenols, such as flavonoids and tannins.

We source our organic Fairtrade pomegranates exclusively from Uzbekistan. Large parts of the region are certified for organic and Fairtrade products, and are cultivated by the Fairtrade farmers living there. The farmers are part of a large Fairtrade community made up of 3 groups, Dustkul Bogi, Turkiston Gulba and Turob Bobo. A 1000 farmers and their families belong to the community. By working with Fairtrade, the farmers can provide their families with a secure income and offer their children new opportunities.

After harvesting, a special procedure is used to remove the seeds from the hard skin and then gently dried using solar energy. The drying process is very eco-friendly, using a solar drying method that has a minimal impact on the product.

During the drying process, the segments become less moist, leaving the seeds coated with fruit skin. The seeds are crunchy and edible. The surrounding fruit flesh, including the skin, gives the seeds their aromatic, characteristically fruity taste.

The pomegranate has been the subject of legends. It is said to have triggered the Trojan War, and in Christian culture it symbolises fertility of Mary, mother of Jesus. It is regarded as a symbol of life – the Ancient Egyptians placed pomegranates in mummies’ tombs. The pomegranate’s reputation as an aphrodisiac has persisted to the present day, and it is an ingredient in many love potions.

Fushi superfoods are bio-dynamically grown, cold processed and 100% raw to retain their complete nutritional properties. They are grown and derived from sustainable sources. We believe in being honest to our customers, kind to our planet and responsible for our actions.

For the packaging of our Superfoods we have chosen to use glass, a recyclable material. We do not use the more popular laminated pouches as these are unrecyclable. We aim to use materials that are best for the planet, and reflect our ethos of being earth friendly. So they might not be as pretty, but they’re kinder for the planet!
